A rainbow we saw on the way home from Madrid to Granada; it was a whole arch! (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

Today I'm just back at school and it's raining a lot, so I'm not really taking photos much. Instead, I'll feature panoramas from around Spain for this week!

On Feb 20th, we went up on Sacromonte, the Sacred Hill of Granada, whence you can see the Alhambra and most of Granada. This photo is from a little earlier in the afternoon than the photo I posted originally for the 20th. On the left you can see the gypsy caves; in the center, the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas (I think), and off to the right, a road leading towards a better look-out over the city. (Lumix DMC-FZ28 + PTGui Pro)

Featuring a panorama from last Thursday, this is the Plaza de los Reyes in the Monasterio Don ... something or other, in Madrid (also called the Escoliar, since it's an active seminary). An awful lot of the royalty of Spain is interred here in a very fancy crypt you can probably find photos of online, but we weren't allowed to. Here's the entrance courtyard, though: the Hall of the Kings. (Lumix DMC-FZ28 + PTGui Pro)
3
We travelled to Segovia last Saturday, which is famous for being the site of Queen Isabel's coronation and home to an ancient Roman aqueduct (still standing!). See here: aqueduct. (Lumix DMC-FZ28 + PTGui Pro)
4
On Sunday afternoon, we visited the Royal Palace in Madrid, which played host to a HUGE party a day or two after we visited. It was pretty cool to see the news reports on the setup for the party and watch them cleaning up the palace we'd just touristed through. This is a larger view of the entrance courtyard, with the palace itself in the center and the gift shop, etc. off to the right. If you look just to the center of right, you can see the black and gold lamp post featured in Sunday's photo. (Lumix DMC-FZ28 + PTGui Pro).

My stoic roommate, getting his first tattoo! Actually, he said it didn't hurt that much: he just had to sit there still for half an hour. Either way, he looks pretty bad-ass. P.S. The Chinese haircuttery down the street screwed up his haircut, he doesn't normally look this badass. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

After my roommate Akin got his tattoo last night, I got my labret pierced (like I've been meaning to do for a coupla years now). Akin actually took this, right after I put lotion on his tattoo. His ink is right in that awkward spot on the spine right under your neck, where nobody except me can reach (because I'm stretchy). I'll put up another picture in a few weeks when I swap out the jewelry to something more to my taste. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

Hangouts at the Parque de F. Garcia Lorca. You alternately see Americans reading or studying or Spaniards practically having sex. Also, the local cops come by every afternoon around 5 or 6pm and kick everyone off the 'decorative grass.' (Lumix DMC-FZ28=

More park photos, because the weather this week is bee-yoo-tee-ful! (Nikon S210)
9
Today was boring, so here's some thing from Friday: the tattoo artist's pen. Baller steampunk! (Lumix DMC-FZ28=

A few of us went on a bicycling excursion today, hosted by the CLM. Ulises, who heads up the sports and recreation department at school, equipped us with school bikes and helmets and came out with us for an hour, hour and a half ish bike up and down the Río Geníl. Next trip: into the mountains! (Nikon S210)

Today was the start of a whirlwind weekend tour of France! In order to get to the gay city of Paris, we had to take a shuttle bus to the local airport, a plane to Barcelona's Gerona airport, another plane to Paris' Beauvais airport, and a shuttle into the northwest corner of the city. Here is our RyanAir flight from Barcelona to Paris. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

Atop the Eiffel Tower, my friends asked me to take a photo of them for posterity. Well, gosh damn it, I want to tag myself in one of my own Facebook albums. So, yup, there's Paris, kids! (Lumix DMC-FZ28 ... of a Kodak EasyShare)
13
On Friday evenings, the Louvre is free after 6pm to people under 26 years old. Hellz yeah! We came, we saw (the Mona Lisa - a nice painting, but I don't think I can appreciate it properly), and we played around taking silly photos outside by the pyramids and reflecting ponds after dark. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
14
Time to come home! The French metro was pretty easy to navigate and, as our friend who lives in Paris said, you're never more than 150m away from a metro stop (if you can find the entrance). (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
15
It's back to school again, so I'll be reliving my weekend for the rest of this week. The Eiffel Tower provides lots of fun angles and geometry, especially for steampunk fans, whether you're at the summit or the base. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
16
Have some more Eiffel Tower; this shot is from inside the east pillar, walking down the emergency stairs. This place is seriously a steampunk dream. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

This here's l'Obelisque which is next to the Jardin des Tuileries. The obelisk was funky, but I was happier to walk through Tuileries, as I'm a big fan of the Pictures at an Exhibition suite. If you don't know it, go pull it up on YouTube or something, and I think it's the sixth movement. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

Art-fag shot of the Arc du Triumph! (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

We're all in Barcelona for a long weekend with our program, visiting art museums and Gaudí buildings; also, sampling cava, Spanish champagne. The Hotel Gravina, which is providing our accommodations for the weekend, gave us a free glass of cava each with the room. See here: school-sponsored drunkenness. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
20
Yes, more lamp post photos. This one is inside (yes, inside) the MNAC in Barcelona. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
21
Wandering around the Barrio Gotico (Gothic Borough) in Barcelona. Of course it's another lamp post. I believe I have found a theme. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

Our program director wins today -- he took us to the beach after a long weekend in Barcelona! See here, my dear friend and travel companion Laura, another student in my program, running down the rock pier to meet me at the end. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

I love the Madrid airport - especially when we don't have to sprint through it. Iberia Airlines booked us through Madrid for our Granada-Barcelona flight, with a 50-minute layover to get across a huge airport (through security, too). We made it fine coming to Barcelona, but on the way home our first flight was delayed by 40 minutes; so, we were running like madmen through the airport to try and catch our connection. Fortunately, an Iberia CSR caught us and told us they'd just put us on a later flight (the only other flight that day) to Granada -- we're expecting to be stuck overnight! Such luck. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
24
Flashback to Monday, our beach trip to Sitges. We didn't see much of town but for the beach, a church, and a café, but that was plenty. There were also lots of cuties on the beach (from anywhere between 100cm (3') to 200 cm (6'5'). (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

Sagrada Familia
26
Here's a glimpse of the Alhambra at night. I went uptonight with my friend Meredith and we took some 40's – well, 1L bottles – of Alhambra, the local beer.
27
Walking around Granada, we ran into what seemed to be a despedida de soltera, or a bachelorette's party. In Spain, they do it up right, with matching outfits and lots of drunkenness. (CoolPix S210)

Yup, it's the Alhambra! (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
