Having finished a Project 365, I'm shooting for even more fun and the occasional theme week when things are less fun. Also, I swear that this year I'll program some functional apps to use with ShutterCal!

We made it back down to Brooklyn just in time to catch the fireworks over Prospect Park! After those died down, Rachael and I went back to her place to play drunk DDR for a bit. Difficult! -- not the DDR, the getting drunk while bouncing around bit.

It's your biiiiirthday you can ... go eat Mediterranean food if you want to? My biffer Tahra's birthday was today! I can't remember if she turned 24 or 25, but either way she's older and she's super cool and it was the first time I've gotten to see her since this summer so we all had lots of fun. Oh, and the (other) blondie is her cutie girlfriend Erika! (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

These past few days have kept me busy catching up with friends before I leave the East Coast again! I went up to Wilmington yesterday to have lunch with my dear friend Nicki; after striking out on trying to find somewhere open to eat, we ended up a block away at a diner and had french toast and chicken fingers. We are totally grownup. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

P.S. The two symbols on the carry-out boxes are 'Nmb' and 'YNAD' - Nicki and my glyphs, respectively, for marking food.

When I got back to my yome today, it looked like nothing had changed since I left two weeks ago for holidays. Just in case, though, I checked under my blanket before jumping into bed, since we have the occasional spider around here. No spiders, though -- just a cache of acorns. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

While this isn't technically a self-portrait, I think it's hilarious and I'm still gonna put it in the XShot contest. Neener neener =p Marie has some of the awesomest expressions when it comes to being excited and cheerful. HOT BAGEL! (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

Back in December, I signed up for , a postcard-swapping community, on the recommendation of Mo, one of my other buddies here at Buddha Camp. (She also turned me on to other mail-swapping communities like Paperback Swap). So far, I've sent out two and, when I got back after New Year's, I found these two postcards sitting in my mailbox! (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

The Andy in his native habitat! Y'know, I've never really tried the Myspace shot before (... it's a little disturbing that Firefox's spellcheck OK'd Myspace and MySpace), but this XShot thing has piqued my interest. Ima try and get creative, but we gotta start with basics. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

Leigh, the volunteer coordinator, dropped by my office this afternoon to with some Official Business: would I mind moving into the press barn house to free up my yome for the couple who's arriving on Wednesday? Goodbye, yome - I'm out the door! (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
9

Hello, new digs! It only took me an hour or two to move all my stuff from the yome to the press barn; there must be something to this non-materialistic lifestyle. Here's to a new year in a new room! (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

Legend

Back porch (facing Temp Warehouse 1)

My room! (just inside the door from the porch)

Press Barn (back to Temp Warehouse 1)

Happy Palindrome Day! (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

I've been waiting for this day for five months now, since I started working in Shipping. Finally, the date stamper matches the example date on the label. Truly, my shipping career is complete now. However, my contract keeps me here for another month. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
12
I can pretty much guarantee that this milk jug is gonna be gone by the 17th, along with the other three jugs in the fridge. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
13
Here in the shipping room, we try to re-use and recycle any boxes and envelopes we can to cut costs... sometimes it takes a few months. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
14
It's not a fig, it's not a reconstituted grape -- it's a date! (wah waaaah) (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
15
Oh, no, somebody finished the puzzle! Was it YOU? (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
16
Commons In Use! Over the course of December, our contracters built extensions onto the commons house to turn the patios into functional indoor areas. The back patio now functions as the TV/reading room. Look, we're watching 'Me, you, and everybody else'! (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
17
My ULINE order came today! (Our local shipping company rezoned us over the New Year; now, instead of one-day shipping, they only come up on Monday at end of day! Lame.) Christmas orders ate through a lot of supplies, so I had to order a shit-ton of boxes, bags, and ... golf cart tumblers? That's right, folks. P.S. Are the golf carts actually iron-on apliques? (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

The kitchen is preparing us dinner these days, since we work 8-6:15pm and evening classes start between 7-8pm. What that means is a lot of leftovers get rehashed into something quite nice, like all these soups. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
19
This week is le rainy. Can you see all the wet on PJ's glasses? P.S. This is PJ! She's new here, but her boyfriend Davie's been here for a few months. She's super-cool and very cheerful! (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

Hey jeanneschaser, I got you some more lens flare to make up for two weeks ago when I replaced that other one with something more topical. Talk about art for art's sake.

Anyway. The rain let up for a bit and the sun came out. I wanted to get a picture of the light rainfall pierced by the sun, but that cloud migrated north by the time I got all my gear out. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

That's right, bitches. PALINDROME DAY #2! (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
22
Oh, man, would you look at that! One of the higher-ups dropped in on the shipping room the other day and noticed how much dust and trash had accumulated around the corners, so she granted me this Saturday morning community cleanup time toward cleaning my work space. (It makes sense, since they also assign cleaning the factory and the upstairs office as community cleanup tasks.) They also granted me Andi (pronounced On-dee, not Andy) to help -- and man, what a great vacuuming job he did! He even mopped by the door where I track in mud. I finally got a big pile of recyclable boxes sorted out -- and out the door. Yay! (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

Sometimes, it's worth getting up a little early and seeing sunrise over the road to the bindery. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

Hello, new shipper! Bridget, one of our new volunteers -- the same one who moved into my old yome -- came in to my office one afternoon last week. 'I hear you're leaving soon,' she said. I was wondering, how did you get into shipping?' I told her, 'I asked that very same question.' She started this very day and has been doing great! (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
25
After spending a day on paperwork and packing items, Bridget is also learning how to make products -- and shrink-wrap them! (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
26
Bridget caught me taking pictures of her working at the stamper. She didn't realize I'd been snapping shots of her hard at work this week! 'Hi-dee ho, neighbor!' haha (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
27
Bridget's hard at work, doing the main piece of Shipping: packing books. She does an amazing job of wrapping books, with her neatly-folded edges and wrapping-paper accents. I'm sure all of our bookstores and individual customers will be glad to receive her packages. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

This Friday marks the start of the Longchenpa ceremony, celebrating the life (and harnessing the energy of) one of the great Nyingma Tibetan Buddhist philosophers. People will be chanting, prostrating, etc. for the next couple days with just a support staff keeping the kitchen running and doing a bit of factory work. You can count me, as usual, in the support staff crew. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

Yesterday, Tracy (our main cook) called dibs on me to help out as a prep cook in the kitchen, since I've mentioned I'd be interested in. (I mentioned it a couple months ago, actually, and then again in December. They heard it through the grape vine...) So it looks like I'll be spending mornings at work in Dharma Publishing, training Bridget and writing up reference materials, and afternoons in the kitchen cooking. I like this change of pace and scenery -- and it'll provide a good transition for Bridget into being the solo shipper. Also, I made about 250 cookies in two days, bitchez. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)

I got a Magic Mouse, I got a Magic Mouse, Magic Mouse Magic Mouse hey hey hey hey! This little bundle of joy set me back one Christmas present and it promises to be lots of fun to play with. (Lumix DMZ-28)
