Every day when I step off the train to go to work I look upon one of the most beautiful harbours in the world and two icons of architecture and engineering. So I began Shuttercal by taking a photo every day when I got off the train. Soon I wanted to inject some variety, so it's expanded to include shots of Sydney from all sorts of vantage points.

About Me:

Every day when I step off the train to go to work I look upon one of the most beautiful harbours in the world and two icons of architecture and engineering. So I began Shuttercal by taking a photo every day when I got off the train. Soon I wanted to inject some variety, so it's expanded to include shots of Sydney from all sorts of vantage points.
New year, new Typographic calendar. January is Goldenbook.
1
The Sydney Festival's slogan this year: 'This is our city in summer.' (The statue is King Edward VII; dates from 1921.)
2
Old and new
3
The Princess and the Jewel
4
The Volendam was in port today.
5
There was a giraffe from Peru
Who was awfully fond of a gnu
But they failed ant-eloping
Which left them both moping
And feeling decidedly blue.
6
Spotted on the walk home.

The New Look (with apologies to Kurt Hutton)
10
Urban oasis – hidden at the back of the building where I work.
11
P.S. Sydney Showboat II
12
A splash of red on the train platform.
13
As I've said before: I wonder who actually uses water taxis?
14
This is one of the places I head to when I need scores, recordings or reference books for my work. It's about 10 minutes away from the office – very handy!
15
'Why should Titania cross her Oberon?' The fairy lights I'm wearing are a souvenir from a staged presentation of Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night's Dream music. The actors wore them stitched into their bodices/jackets.
16
Thomasina in her natural habitat: surrounded by books and recordings. (This is my token attempt at an 'arm's length' self-portrait. These are so hard to take – a pain in the arm, you could say.)
17
Strictly speaking the ibis is a bit of a pest. But I thought it was cute the way this one was taking advantage of a blocked and overflowing bubbler (drinking fountain).
18
Old and New 2. The historic Rocks area on Sydney Harbour nestles right up against modern office towers.
19
The first irises of the year! (My regular florist is always still on holiday when I get back to work in January, so I have to go a couple of weeks without my trademark irises.)
20
This one's a companion to the photo from 19 January 2010. Taken from the same location but looking southwest instead of southeast. I love the way the mirrored office tower reflects its neighbours in the twilight.
21
Wanted a different angle on the Sydney Opera House; had to climb a lot of steps.
22
But the fair maid died for want of an XShot and was doomed to haunt the scene of her self portraits, appearing as a vapoury visitor at the back door every evening. (This double exposure was created entirely in-camera; no photoshopping.)
23
'You'll go blind doing that.' At least, this is what my mother always used to tell me when she caught me reading after lights out.
24
In the laneway that runs down the side of City Recital Hall Angel Place they've hung an installation of bird cages. They're all empty (and the doors are open) but the installation include audio of bird calls, which is kind of spooky. It's part of the Laneways: By George! project [LINK] which began in October 2009. (See my photo from 14 October [LINK].)
25
It's Australia Day down here in the Antipodes, so I'm reprising a photo from last year.
26
27
Urban ferns.
28
Tonight to a Sydney Festival performance of Stravinsky's opera-oratorio, Œdipus Rex. It was a staged production in the concert hall, which meant that we had to remove the front rows of seats from the stalls to create an orchestra 'pit'. (The new front row was L.)
