I'm starting to feel like I am actually understanding photography. I'm very happy with how this one turned out.

OK...since a few of you had these great dandelions, I thought I would give it a try. I had my blue spray bottle to mist it, then I used it for the background. So, thanks for the inspiration Ninaluna & Shutterbug...and I forget who else, sorry :)

008 - Astrophotography
Prescott, AZ

In the early morning hours before having to get up and fly home. This shot is the culmination of what I learned throughout the week about photographing the stars.

This is actually several shots layered together to make the final shot. I did a small test as I was putting it together, and wasn't too excited about how it would look. But once the computer finished rendering, and showed me the final image, my jaw dropped!

I wish we had nice clear skies at home so I could do this more often. I can't wait to go to Arizona in the summer, when I can stay out all night, and not be freezing my hands off!

Photogroup went to Rosary Cemetery to photograph today. One of the members that has lived in Santa Fe all his life, has never been able to get this shot, because of the size of the hole in the wall, of the building protecting it. I was happy to get it for him.

I pass these birds everyday on my way to work. I talked my coworker into driving under them today and opening the moon roof in her car. We were slightly nervous driving under them with the roof open. :)
I had two I took today and liked, but decided on this one :]

A beautiful Sunday day. I made our entire dining room into a shopping center for Potato. We had clothing, jewelry, shoes, candles, toys, stationary and luggage. She had so much fun playing. Somehow she turned it into a game of police chase after she shoplifted from the store. I love watching her imagine.

While I was in Nebraska, my mother and I stepped outside about dusk. We noticed a lot of Monarch butterflies and realized they were all settling on this one branch.
a shameless plug for the creators of ShutterCal. thirty second exposure with a small key-chain flashlight done in the early hours of this morning. hi shuttercal, i'm from NY, where is everyone else from? (hint hint: inspiration for your next photo; everyone should take a photo of 'ShutterCal' & their location!)

'The skies can't keep their secret!'

So last week, I did a week of only film. Today, the sun came out, so I bummed my brother's digital again to enjoy it.
*Title from Emily Dickinson poem.
I keep seeing everyone's awesome water shots so I wanted to give this a go. I first tried this with some other craft liquids and found that plain old water works best. Basically I just dropped some water on the back side of a CD and went at it with my macro lens.

This is one of the prettiest spiders that I have seen, it must be the custom delux model....lol. It is a Ridge-faced flower spider (Misumenoides formosipes)

Used the macro lens this time. Didn't want to get to close. amperes, the White Bleeding Hearts are not as nice as the red when I use the macro. The whites start out yellow and turn white. Looks funny having white and yellow going at the same time.
Lake Matheson looking towards Mt. Cook - S. Island, New Zealand. Celebrating this month by our visit there in Feb '06. - all photos done on a basic 'automatic' setting. The scenery is all!

I was tickled pink when I saw this tree bloomed out this morning. It happened overnight and since this is our first spring at our new house I had no idea who blooms it would have. I love this picture.
Potato is feeling better and all my tests are good.
Yeah - this photography course requires me to get up at stupid o'clock to try and get a sunrise that didn't even rise over the place that I wanted it too. Never the less, I still got this one with some lovely autumn colours beginning to show

It's back to school again, so I'll be reliving my weekend for the rest of this week. The Eiffel Tower provides lots of fun angles and geometry, especially for steampunk fans, whether you're at the summit or the base. (Lumix DMC-FZ28)
wow!!! and this wasn't taken at any old zoo! This was in the wild in MA, baby!

And so, tomorrow, I have completed one year with shuttercal. I'm going to try and come up with some kind of meaningful, philosophical evaluation of it all tomorrow, but in the mean time, this is the photograph that I wanted to finish the G20 protests series with. The photograph has haunted me ever since I took it, and up until now I have had trouble connecting with the reason as to why it had such an impact on me. In some ways, I am shocked and saddened at my reaction to this photograph. It proves to me how embedded our stereotypes can be, even when we consider ourselves to be 'open minded' individuals. The last thing I imagine a beautiful girl like this to be doing is covering her face. Arguably, in my area, generation and culture, beauty/fame/image appears more important to the majority than things such as knowledge/integrity/charity, and standing up for what you believe in. The bottom line is that I was shocked to see such a beautiful woman stand up so strongly for what she believed in that she was willing to go to such extremes to fight to defend those beliefs. The fact that she wanted to conceal her identity, as opposed to flaunt it, went against everything I’ve noticed about modern youth culture. It's haunting, but unbelievably refreshing, and conversely, it's made me feel much better about the world.
It snowed again today. =D (Maybe this one would be better for a Christmas card, Mom?)
