How can I link facebook to my photo of the day?
If you mean a way to see your SC picture of the day on facebook, here's a way.
1) add the application "Extended info" to your facebook profile.
2) go to the application page (this one) and click "insert new field".
3) choose IMAGE.
4) on "image URL", type http://shuttercal.com/calendar/o...
5) on "link URL", type http://shuttercal.com/calendar/o...
6) that's it! Now you can add Extended info as a new tab on your profile page, and all your friends will be able see the latest picture you uploaded on that tab.
very cool! I added to my FB page! :) thanks for the instructions
Prolagus, thanks so much. I could not have explained it better!
Just be sure you change the link to your actual user name...othewise you will download oihsan's pictures for all your friends to see! I know this because this is what I did. But thanks for the easy to follow instructions!
Thanks for this, I now have Shuttercal on my FB profile!
I have the tab now on my profile, "Extended Info" and I used the link http://shuttercal.com/calendar/o... to pull in the latest picture. The problem is that it does not update on a daily basis, it has been showing the same picture for the last 4 days. Any thoughts?
We know. I've actually wrote to Facebook before and discovered that it is a planned limitation on their end. They allow embedded inputs to their web site, but there are limits on the amount of auto-updating information allowed to pass through their servers. ShutterCal's embedded "latest photo" is a single link that updates on our server daily... but, the link only updates on facebook's end when they allow refreshing of the pulled information. It's a bit unpredictable... between 24 - 96 hours (from what I've observed)
You'll notice that our "latest photo" embedded images update instantly on most other blogs and pages. We'll build a proper facebook app soon.
Why not just a simple "share on facebook" quick link after you upload a picture, in the meanwhile? That would be, I believe, really easy to design.
Prolagus, you are so good at predicting the future ;)
We're doing a major upgrade in January, and a lot of your ideas are included.
Any further forward on a share button for facebook?

Will the share on facebook feature be enabled only for your own photos? Or will you be able to share other shuttlecal's photos on your page?
Sorry, might be a newbie question, just curious who will be able to share my photos on fb.
No, it will only display your photos.
If you're concerned about privacy - we have privacy features launching on Monday
Is there a place to click here to find a link to FB? I started with a new user name today and went to add it following the previous instructions but saw the message that FB is no longer allowing tabs on profiles. Is there a way around this? Thanks.
this does not work now from what I can gather because FB does not have "tabs" anymore on your profile :(
We want you guys to be able to display your project (or at least latest photo & link) on facebook. I'll start developing a solution for everyone right away.
Feel free to post your ideas, suggestions, and SC-facebook wish lists. ;)
I would also like to be able to let people comment with facebook.
I mean, I have no idea how difficult that would be to accomplish.
But, it makes me feel like I need to put them up other places just so people can comment that aren't on shuttercal.
I guess the ability to comment anonymously, as in without an account, could allow the same thing.
I appreciate that FaceBook is so popular and that you're working on more and more ways to integrate with them. But I have to tell you, FaceBook doesn't hold a candle to ShutterCal in my book. I might check my FaceBook a couple times a week. I check ShutterCal and browse through it way more often! At least once a day and usually more. I only miss it when I absolutely don't have time or access to get on and browse. I guess it all has to do with what your focus is and photography is my main passion. I'm always trying to talk people into getting involved with ShutterCal. I'd like to see capabilities to journal/blog/message etc., because I think that would help me win more of my friends over....LOL... but I realize most people use other apps for those things. In any case, ShutterCal rocks!
Make sure it's the address for the actual image, not just a page which includes an image.

To those doing this project, thinking about starting, or about to give, I urge you to keep one simple thing in mind....
